Weight loss happens when we burn more calories than we consume. Eat a healthy diet, and add a little exercise (to boost metabolism), and we can’t help but lose fat. While this is true to a limited extent, there are ways to help our bodies lose weight more effectively. Because the hormone leptin is “the key” to turning on our natural fat burning machine, some of the following suggestions are taken from a book on the subject, Mastering Leptin by Byron Richards, with Mary Guignon Richards.
We also borrow some ideas from another insightful book, The Protein Power Lifeplan by Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades. Although we’ll take very little time here to explain why these steps help one to lose weight, the science is easily explained in both books. The goal here is to return our bodies to a more balanced state, and reduce hormonal resistances that invite weight gain, while easing inflammation that may cause disease.
